UCC senior staff embark on indefinite strike
UCC senior staff embark on an indefinite strike as a result of delays in working and approving their allowances, conditions of service and promotions which have been on the negotiation table for several years.
The announcement of the UCC senior staff indefinite strike means that academic and administrative duties have been put on hold until an agreement favouring the striking staff is reached.
Reacting to the strike action by the staff, the local chapter of the Senior Staff Association of the Universities of Ghana at the University of Cape Coast indicated that
members of the striking staff are not happy over delays on the part of the management of the University to resolve certain pertinent issues regarding its members.
The delays in working and approving their allowances, conditions of service and promotions should have been avoided with proactive management processes but that was not the case.

According to the group, issues and grievances such as negotiated allowances, issues of the condition of service for its members have not been implemented, promotion of its members and the inclusion within the Senior Staff rank have been tabled before management since last year but have not seen the light of day hence the action.
Some members of the group who had red bands on their wrists and hands insisted that they will not work until their grievances are met.

“We are not going to resume work until they fix the situation,” they said.
The Association is also worried that the issues its members are fighting for have been negotiated and approved by other universities, but the situation is different at the University of Cape Coast.
