WAEC Announces 2022 WASSCE Distinction Awards: Date, Award Categories and More

The 2022 WAEC WASSCE Distinction Awards will be held this year, per the latest update from the West African Examination Council (WAEC). The WASSCE Distinction Awards is an annual award organized to reward hard work and excellence among WASSCE candidates who sat the exam as school candidates.

The award is an initiative by WAEC and funded by the (WAEC) Endowment Fund (WEF) which offers winners of the various categories for their outstanding performance in the Senior High School leaving examination for school candidates.

What is the Date for the 2022 WASSCE Distinction Awards?

According to the council, the excellence award for the 2022 WASSCE batch will be held on June 22, 2023. Sakyi Asare-Menako Hall will be the venue of the glamorous event which is expected to be attended by key stakeholders in the education sector from public, private, and non-governmental organizations championing quality education in Ghana.

Who stands the chance of winning one of the 2022 WASSCE Distinction Awards?

All WASSCE candidates who scored at least A1 in all 8 subjects taken in one sitting qualify to be considered for the prestigious award. Candidates caught in any form of examination practices during the said examination do not qualify for consideration.

All candidates who meet the basic criteria above will have their raw scores standardized. The raw scores are converted to T-scores. This is followed by the ranking of their T-scores, and the best are then selected as the award winners.

What are the Distinction awards to be won?

There are Three (3) Distinction Awards to be won at the 2022 event. These are 

• Best Overall candidate
• Second Best Overall candidate
• Third Best Overall candidate

Which SHS programmes will be awarded?

In all, WAEC will recognize winners for 7 programmes offered at the SHS/TVET level. These programmes are as follows,

1. Visual Arts programme
2. General Arts programme
3. Business programme
4. General Science programme
5. Agriculture programme
6. Technical programme
7. Home Economics programme
