What is the New 2023 BECE School Selection Date? (Details here)
What is the New 2023 BECE School Selection Date? This is the most important question parents and candidates are seeking answers to after the 2023 BECE.
Per the timelines disclosed by the Ghana Education Service, 2023 BECE candidates who sat for the 7th to August 2023 exam were to start selecting SHSs from 24th August to 4th September.
However, the GES seems to have suspended the school selection phase until further notice, with less information on when the selection will commence.
What is the New 2023 BECE School Selection Date?
It is not clear if the GES intends to allow candidates and parents to select schools before or after the release of the BECE results.
At the time of this publication, the Ghana Education Service was yet to release a new date for the School Selection Phase of the BECE 2023.
Prior to 2017, BECE candidates chose schools even before the examination, but after 2017, schools were selected after the BECE had been administered by WAEC.
Currently, there is a new suggestion on the drawing board from the Africa Education Watch.
The education think-tank had called on the GES and the Ministry of Education (MoE) to allow BECE candidates to choose their preferred SHSs after WAEC has released the BECE results.
If this is what the GES intends to pilot with 2023 BECE candidates, it will mean, the GES would have to introduce additional details into the school data sheets.
The new information would have to include the cut-off aggregate and raw scores for each of the over 900 public and private secondary schools.
At the time of this publication, Ghana Education News can confirm that the GES and MoE have pulled down the list of schools uploaded as candidates for the 2023 School Selection.

Your reliable Ghana Education News projects that in the coming days, the GES, the Free SHS Secretariat, and the MoE will release a new update on what parents, schools, and candidates need to know and do regarding the school selection phase which has been put on hold.
Should the school selection phase be shifted to after the release of the BECE results, WAEC will have to release the results earlier than usual to allow for ample time for the school selection.
The GES would have to sensitize the public very well to the new approach if it decided to opt for the school selection after the release of the results.
