2021 Proposed Creche-JHS Academic Calendar for Private Schools – GNACOPS
The Ghana National Council of Private Schools (GNACOPS) has released its proposed academic calendar for private schools.
The proposed academic timeline for private schools covers crèche, nursery, KG, lower primary, upper primary, and Junior High School.
In the calendar sighted by GhanaEducation.org, private schools will have three terms at all levels (Crèche-JHS). All levels will also reopen and vacate together. This makes the private schools’ academic calendar different from that released by the Ministry of Education.
Private schools’ first term for crèche to JHS starts on 18th January and ends on 22nd April. The vacation period for the first term commences on 23rd April to 3rd May 2021.

All students and pupils report to school on 4th May 2021 to start the second term which ends on 19th August 2021. Vacation for the second term would be from 20th August to 5th September.
The third term for all private schools begins on 7th September and comes to an end on 14th December 2021. Learners in private schools break for the Christmas holidays on 14th December 2021.
Per the proposed 2021 academic timeline for private schools, schools will be in session for 14 weeks in term 1, 16 weeks in term 2, and 14 weeks in term 3. This means private schools in Ghana will spend 44 weeks in school for academic work.

The proposed academic calendar by the government did not include learners in the creche and nursery.
This was because the government’s basic schools start from KG.
Again, JHS students in public schools will practice the semester system however, the proposed calendar for private schools is based on the term model. This makes the vacation dates for public school JHS different from their colleagues in private schools.
Whiles JHS students in public schools will have a maximum of 42 weeks of learning in the year, Private schools will spend 44 weeks in school. A careful look at the proposed academic calendar for private schools reveals a different timeline for schools.
