2024 BECE questions to be serialised to prevent leakage
The 2024 BECE questions to be administered by WAEC will be serialized to prevent leakage, per the latest report from the 2024 BECE briefing meeting held on February 21, 2024, in Accra.
When questions are serialized for the 2024 BECE, students from the same school who are writing the same exam will not have the same exam questions as no. 1, no. 2, in that order, especially for objective questions. Again, the answers could be randomized, ensuring that although you are answering the same questions, your correct answer to the same questions has been associated with different letters (A-D), making it difficult to cheat or copy each other. .
2024 BECE questions to be serialized to prevent leakage: Five benefits to using serialized exam questions
- Reduced Cheating: The primary benefit is the discouragement of cheating, as pre-obtained information about the specific questions becomes useless in a serialized format.
- Enhanced Security: Serialisation makes it more difficult to leak exam questions, as any leaked version would only be relevant to a specific, limited group of students.
- Fairness and Integrity: By preventing widespread cheating, serialized exams promote a level playing field for all students, ensuring that their scores reflect their actual knowledge and skills.
- Discourages Rote Learning: Knowing the specific order of questions or answer choices becomes irrelevant, encouraging students to focus on a deeper understanding of the subject matter.
- Reduced Costs: Long-term, the cost of reprinting or redesigning exams due to leaks can be significantly reduced through serialization.

Since the BECE sample questions from the WAEC are yet to be released as a guide, schools are to ensure that as the candidates are writing various mock exams, which are mostly purchased from consortiums, THE QUESTIONS SHOULD BE CRITICAL THINKING/Practical ONES, but not direct questions as in the previous BECEs, so that the candidates will not be laid ambush when they meet such questions in the examination halls this year.
