The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has released key highlights for candidates ahead of the 2023 BECE and WASSCE examinations.

- Arrive early at the examination venue. Candidates are advised to arrive at the examination venue at least 30 minutes before the start of the examination. This will allow them enough time to check in and get settled before the examination begins.
- Bring the necessary materials. Candidates are required to bring their examination slip, identification card, and writing materials to the examination venue. They should also ensure that their writing materials are in good condition.
- Read the instructions carefully. Candidates are advised to read the instructions carefully before starting the examination. This will help them to avoid making any mistakes.
- Answer all questions. Candidates are advised to answer all questions, even if they are not sure of the answers. This is because there is no negative marking in the WAEC examinations.
- Stay calm and focused. It is important for candidates to stay calm and focused during the examination. This will help them to perform at their best.
WAEC has also assured candidates that it has taken all necessary measures to ensure the security of the examinations. The Council has increased the number of security personnel at the examination venues and has also deployed technology to track and prevent cheating.

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) held a press briefing on Tuesday, August 2, 2023, to brief stakeholders on the upcoming 2023 BECE, WASSCE, and G/ABCE examinations.
- 2023 WASSCE
- A total of 447,204 candidates will sit for the 2023 WASSCE.
- The examination will be held at 834 centers across the country.
- 60 subjects will be offered, including 4 core and 56 electives.
- 2023 BECE
- A total of 600,714 candidates will sit for the 2023 BECE.
- The examination will be held at 2,137 centers across the country.
- 21 subjects will be offered, including 5 core and 16 electives.
- G/ABCE
- A total of 324 candidates will sit for the 2023 G/ABCE.
- The examination will be held at 10 centers across the country.

WAEC also announced that it will be taking a number of measures to ensure the security of the examinations, including:
- Increasing the number of depots for storing examination papers.
- Releasing question papers no earlier than 45 minutes before the start of the examinations.
- Inspecting all depots for examination question papers to ensure that they are in good shape and secure.
- Moving question papers in bits, so that only the papers needed for a particular week or few days are at the depots at any time.
- Working closely with security agencies to track and arrest dealers and operators of rogue websites.
- Monitoring the examinations by staff of the Council, monitoring agents, the NIB, and other security agencies.
