These are similar schools that belong to the same category, which candidates may comfortably accept as alternative schools to their initial choices.

How does the Cluster feature for the 2022 School Selection Work?

If a candidate makes a choice from category A schools. All the schools in that category belong to one cluster. The candidate has the option to choose YES if he wants to be considered for other schools in the same category in case he does not get placed in his choice of school from the category. If he or she chooses NO, then in case he or she is not placed in the category A school he or she chooses, he will miss the opportunity to be considered for placement in other schools that have vacancies in that same category.

b. Absorption of 212 technical and vocational institutes

d. Low enrolment selection option

This is another new school selection feature that allows candidates to select schools from category 6 which is made up of schools that have less enrolment each year. What this means per the information available to Ghanaeducation.org is that there is less competition for enrolment into these schools.

How many schools will candidates choose during the school selection process?

Candidates will choose six (6) schools out of the 911 public second-cycle schools available.

What are the second cycle institution categories from which BECE graduates will be expected to choose their six schools?

The candidates will make 6 choices and these can be a combination of the following.

a. A school from the available Grammar Senior High Schools.

b. A school from Senior High Technical Schools

c. Technical and Vocational Schools or Institutions

Note that these schools have been categorized into four (4) categories.

What are the 4 categories of schools in the 2022 School Selection Booklet?

The categories are as follows

a. CATEGORY A Schools –  These are also known as the Overly Subscribed Schools. Thus, these are schools that many candidates choose and want to attend each year. This creates tough competition for placement and selection into these schools.

Some of the schools in this category are Legon Pressec, Aburi Girls, Accra Academy, Achimota SHS, and Mfamtipim among others.

B. CATEGORY B Schools – These are also known as averagely subscribed schools. Thus, these schools also get many candidates choosing them, but not as many as that of Category A schools. It means it is as competitive as the Category A schools.

C. CATEGORY C Schools – These are under-subscribed schools in Ghana. These are schools that less number of candidates choose during school selection. Such schools may either be underdeveloped, less known or have a less attractive infrastructure.

D. CATEGORY D Schools –  Category D schools are schools that are located within a catchment area where a candidate is located. Such schools are Day-Schools that may be found in any of the other categories. A catchment area Day school is an SHS, SHTS or TVET that is located within 10 miles or 16 kilometres radius from the residence of a student who is opting for the school. Given that the catchment radius of 10 miles or 16 kilometres, such a school may be found in other districts than the district in which the candidate’s Junior High School is located.
