Ampem Darkoa Ladies Shine in Debut CAF Women’s Champions League, Earn Praise from GFA Executive
Gifty Oware-Mensah, a respected Executive Council member of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), has lauded the outstanding performance of Ampem Darkoa Ladies in the 2023 CAF Women’s Champions League. Despite securing the fourth position in the tournament and narrowly missing the bronze medal after a defeat to ASFAR Club in the third-place playoff, the Ghanaian champions managed to make a lasting impression.
This marked Ampem Darkoa Ladies’ inaugural appearance in the prestigious competition, having missed out on qualification in the previous season. While they did not replicate the remarkable feat achieved by Hasaacas Ladies in 2021, the owner of Berry Ladies, Gifty Oware-Mensah, expressed satisfaction with the team’s commendable performance on the continental stage.

“We came, we saw, and I believe we have left an indelible mark that cannot be overlooked. For most of you, this marks the beginning of a great turn in your career,” she remarked. “This exposure will shoot most of you to the next level. Even though we came to play, we came to also make a name for ourselves, and that has very much been achieved too.”
Despite falling short of claiming the bronze, Ampem Darkoa Ladies are set to receive $200,000 as prize money for their fourth-place finish. This financial reward not only recognizes their efforts on the field but also serves as a testament to their growing influence in the women’s football arena.
