Autopsy reveals the cause of Aburi Girls Student’s death, which allegedly occured on 5th February, 2024 at premises of Aburi Senior High School.
The recent passing of a first-year student at Aburi Girls Senior High School has sent shockwaves through the community, prompting calls for a comprehensive investigation into the circumstances surrounding her demise. The initial outcry sparked by the incident has led to renewed scrutiny of health and safety protocols within Ghana’s educational institutions.
The student, identified as Stacy Okyere, tragically succumbed to severe stomach pains on February 5, 2024. Despite seeking assistance at the school’s sickbay, she was not provided with the necessary medical attention and was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital. This failure to address her condition in a timely manner has raised significant concerns regarding the provision of healthcare services and the overall welfare of students.

In response to mounting pressure, the Ghana Education Service (GES) has taken decisive action by establishing a nine-member committee to investigate the circumstances surrounding Stacy’s death. Additionally, the GES has pledged to collaborate closely with law enforcement agencies to ensure a thorough and impartial inquiry.
Child Rights International (CRI) has also joined the chorus of voices calling for accountability and reform within the education sector. The organization’s Executive Director, Bright Appiah, emphasized the need for stringent regulatory measures to safeguard the well-being of students and prevent future tragedies.
In a poignant reminder of the urgency of these reforms, an autopsy conducted on Stacy’s remains has revealed that the cause of death was cerebrospinal meningitis. This revelation underscores the critical importance of implementing robust health and safety protocols within educational institutions to mitigate the risk of infectious diseases and other health hazards.
As the Aburi Girls community mourns the loss of one of its own, there is a collective resolve to ensure that Stacy’s untimely passing serves as a catalyst for meaningful change. The upcoming funeral, scheduled for March 2, will provide an opportunity for loved ones to pay their final respects and reflect on the need for greater vigilance in safeguarding the lives of students across the nation.
