Dissatisfaction Over MP ‘s Claims: Mallam-Odorkor Market Executives Seek Clarity
The executives of the Mallam-Odorkor Market in the Ablekuma North Constituency of the Greater Accra Region have found themselves at odds with their Member of Parliament (MP), Madam Shiela Bartels. The cause of this discontent stems from the MP’s assertion that her office made a substantial donation of GHS10,000 to support market women following recent flooding in the area.
In an interview on Accra 100.5 FM’s mid-day news on Monday, October 23, 2023, Mr. Nathaniel Ostein, the Chairman of the Odorkor Market, expressed the market executives’ frustration regarding the MP’s alleged financial contributions. The market executives were taken aback by these claims as they assert that Madam Shiela Bartels was notably absent from the market during the heavy rainfall and ensuing flooding.
Mr. Ostein, in his capacity as the market’s chairman, clarified that they had not received any such support from the MP despite her public statements indicating otherwise. The executives were puzzled by the contradiction between her public declarations and the reality they experienced.

Furthermore, Mr. Ostein highlighted that the only political figure who paid a visit to the area during the floods was the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Parliamentary Candidate for Ablekuma North, Ewuraba Aubyn. This fact serves to emphasize the discrepancy in Madam Shiela Bartels’ claims and the actions reported by the market executives.
This conflict between the MP ‘s assertions and the market executives’ lived experiences has raised questions about transparency and accountability in political representation. The executives seek clarity and accuracy in public statements made by their elected representatives, especially when it concerns support and aid during challenging times like flooding.

As the matter unfolds, the market executives are looking to engage with their MP to address these concerns and ensure that the facts surrounding her alleged contribution are clarified. Clarity and open communication are crucial for maintaining trust and cooperation between constituents and their elected representatives.
