Kumasi ladies and guys turn to Choobi and Ballons after police arrested 26 persons for brandishing toy guns
Barely 48 hours after the Ghana Police arrested 26 persons for brandishing toy guns in public, the youth in Kumasi have started a new trend involving balloons and dolls. Videos sighted by the Ghana Education News team show young men filling balloons with air and slightly opening the tips while applying pressure to make noise. In another video, some ladies in Kumasi were seen carrying “Choobi” (dolls) and having conversations with them.
While it is unclear what kind of satisfaction the youth derive from these bizarre trends, they appear overly excited about the act. Some young men were gleefully taking videos of themselves blowing air into balloons.
A video sighted on X (formerly Twitter) by this portal included a caption suggesting that the youth opted for balloons instead of toy guns due to the Ghana Police crackdown. The caption read, “Since police wan lock we because of toy gun, we turn go balloon.”
Clearly, the youth of Ghana need decent, well-paying jobs to keep them meaningfully engaged and away from such trends that provide only temporary amusement. In other parts of the world, young people might find fulfilling jobs rather than engaging in such activities during working hours.

In another video shared on Twitter, residents of Kumasi were described as “typical villagers.” This description was in response to the ladies in Kumasi initiating the “Choobi” or doll challenge.
“Kumasi is a typical village. After the toy gun challenge, their ladies have also started the Choobi challenge. We are not serious in this country,” a user commented.
