GES non-professional teachers training starts June 28th: NTC

GES/NTC training for non-professional teachers

The Ghana Education Service  (GES) training for non-professional teachers has started and is expected to be carried out nationwide.  The face-to-face training starts on 28th January, 2025  and ends on 29th, while the online starts on 5th July and ends on 6th July, 2025.

The training has been clustered under four zones: Greater Accra, Volta, Central and Eastern. The training will benefit educators in Senior High and Basic schools. This was contained in a letter from the National Teaching Council (NTC) with reference number NTC/LIC/RT/356/74.

The National Teaching Council (NTC) is mandated by the Education Regulatory Bodies Act 2020, Act 1023, to regulate the teaching profession. Section 60(g) on page 36 of the Act states that the Council shall “Subject to approval by the Board, issue temporary certification to persons who, without the requisite teacher education, desire to teach.”

The training is a four-day training in pedagogy and related courses for these categories of teachers in Ghana Education Service (GES) and Ghana Technical, Vocational Education and Training (GTVET) schools. This training will lead to the issuance of a temporary certification to enable teachers who participate in the training to teach as required by the law.

All non-professional teachers in the Senior High and Basic schools are to avail themselves for this very important training. The training programme is made up of two components: a two-day in-person and a two-day online, both of which participants must avail themselves of.

By the existing rules and regulations, the Council is required to issue temporary certification to persons who, without the requisite teacher education, have been engaged to teach in public and private pre-tertiary institutions.

The NTC added that the targeted non-professional teachers for the training have already paid for the said training through a deduction of the licence fee from their CPDS allowance and are therefore not required to pay any fees for this training.
