O’Reilly WASSCE candidate stabbed to death over richest father argument
A final-year student of O’Reilly Senior High School participating in the ongoing West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) has been stabbed to death on campus, several news outlets have reported.
According to news reports sighted by Ghanaeducation.org, the 18-year-old WASSCE student identified as Edward Borketey Sackey was stabbed on campus on Monday and pronounced dead on arrival at the LEKMA hospital.
The deceased General Arts student who met his death after writing a paper for the International Examination (WASSCE for School) was reportedly engaged in an argument, with a colleague over whose father was richer.
Giving accounts of what caused the fight, a cousin of Edward said “We heard some noise at the back and we asked what’s wrong and they said it’s Godwin and Edward fighting.”
I asked what’s the fight about and they said it was nothing serious
The whole thing was about you what do you have? I have this and that, you’re lying. That was what brought the fight. So, I thought the whole thing was nothing,” she said.
The deceased’s cousin according to 3News.com said she was approached by Godwin later with a caution that she warn her “brother or else his blood will flow” after Edward had reportedly run to some teachers but they “did not do anything.”
“The cousin rushed to her uncle’s shop near the school to report the development but her uncle was unavailable only to see Edward covered in blood after he was allegedly stabbed by Godwin on her return,” the media reported.
The police have since arrested the final-year student from O’Reilly Senior High School (SHS) who allegedly stabbed his colleague to death.
Speaking to journalists on the unfortunate incident, the deceased WASSCE candidate’s father said “What happened was yesterday [Monday, September 2] I saw my boy off to come to school and I also went to work
So I was at work and my niece called me that Edward was having a misunderstanding, one of the students was having a misunderstanding with Edward so I should come.”
By the time he reached the hospital, he said Edward had succumbed to his injuries saying “The doctor said Edward has passed away. So when they showed me the body, he had been stabbed three times on his chest.”
