PUBLIC ALERT: Latest WhatsApp Scam Alerted By Cyber Security Authority – Ghana

In today’s world of communication convenience, many of us will have at least one (or more) digital communicator of sort (e.g., WhatsApp, Messenger, Skype, Telegram, Signal, etc.) installed on our mobile phones. With the rise of Cyber Crime specifically SCAM; many of us would have encountered it in one form or another.

The Cyber Security Authority of Ghana (CSA) has identified some cybercrime activities in Ghana that seem to take over people’s social media accounts, especially WhatsApp.
According to the Cybercrime Security Authority, the compromised social media accounts are used to commit fraudulent activities such as investment fraud, online shopping scams, job recruitment scams and solicitation of funds.
The authority has therefore come into conclusion some measures that can help resolve such cybercrime activities from happening.
Using WhatsApp,
One is advised to
1. Open settings
2. Tap Account > Two Step Verification > Enable
3. Enter a six digit PIN of your choice and confirm.
4. Provide a valid email to help you reset your PIN in case you forget it.
Aside this, it is advisable to keep your pin codes and other ID card numbers secret to yourself as it a way these fraudsters use to scam people’s social media accounts.
