SHS2 Reopening Date for 2024/2025 academic year and matters arising as fake news has begun spreading quickly about new dates from WAEC.
In the absence of any changes, SHS2 students in public secondary schools will be reopening and reporting for school on 10th February, 2025.
Upon reopening, they will be in school throughout until 23rd May, 2025. The vacation period will start from 24th May, 2025, to 27th July, 2025. The above dates relate to all students enrolled in schools operating under the transactional calendar released by the Ghana Education Service (GES).
For students who have been enrolled in Singel Track schools for the 2024-2025 academic year, SHS2 students are in school. They are expected to vacate on 5th March 2025.
Upon vacating, the students will have 19 days of holiday break from 6th March to 29th March 2025 and report to school again on 30th March 2025.
There is yet to be received any official communication from the GES on whether there has been a change in the reporting date of 10th February, 2025 for second-year students.
The GES is, however, not expected to alter the current academic calendar, given the reasons it gave for not doing so when CHASS called for postponement of reopening for 3rd-year students in January 2025.
In a related development, the GES has announced that the West African Secondary Schools Examination (WASSCE) for school candidates for the 2025 examination year will be administered from 4th August 2025 to 19th September 2025.

The GES furthered that the 2025 BECE will be administered to junior high students ahead of the WASSCE. The exam is scheduled to start from 9th June to 16th June, 2025.
