GES Director General To Sponsor Akosua Adjei Boateng’s Tertiary Education

GES Director General To Sponsor Akosua Adjei Boateng’s Tertiary Education

In a generous act of support, the Director General of the Ghana Education Service (GES), Dr. Eric Nkansah, has promised to sponsor Akosua Adjei Boateng’s tertiary education.

Akosua Adjei Boateng, a former student of Juaso Senior High Technical School in Juaso-Ashanti, was recently honored for her outstanding academic achievements. She was recognized as the top student in the Technical program, achieving 8 As in the 2024 West African Secondary School Certificate Examination.

Despite her success, Akosua, who is an orphan, faced financial difficulties that prevented her from continuing her education at the tertiary level.

“It saddened me to learn that Akosua, despite her remarkable achievements, was unable to further her education due to financial constraints,” the Director General stated. “As a native of Juaso, I was proud to learn of her accomplishments and felt compelled to assist.”

At the WAEC Distinction Awards last Wednesday, the Director General publicly committed to sponsoring Akosua’s higher education. After making this announcement, he invited Akosua, her close family members, and the Head of Juaso Senior High Technical School to his office. The purpose of this meeting was to understand Akosua’s career goals and plan the next steps for her education.

“I am convinced Akosua will excel in her tertiary education, and I am humbled to be a part of her journey,” he expressed.

This sponsorship underscores the importance of community and institutional support in developing talent and providing opportunities for deserving students. Akosua’s story is a powerful reminder of how educational support can positively impact an individual’s future and the broader community.

Below is the full message by the Dr Eric Nkansah

I will be sponsoring Akosua’s tertiary education so she can study the course of her choice.

As a native of Juaso, I was proud to learn that Akosua Adjei Boateng, a former student of Juaso Senior High Technical School, Juaso-Ashanti, emerged as the overall best student in the Technical programme.

However, hearing that Akosua, an orphan, after securing 8As, has been unable to continue her education at the tertiary level due to financial constraints saddened me.

During the WAEC Distinction Awards last Wednesday, I pledged to sponsor her tertiary education. Later that day, I hosted Akosua, her immediate family, and the Head of Juaso Senior High Technical School in my office to understand her career choices and next steps further.

I am convinced Akosua will excel in her tertiary education, and I am humbled to be a part of it.

Parents Accuse WAEC Of Forcing Thousands Of Students To Admit Cheating In 2023 WASSCE

Parents Accuse WAEC Of Forcing Thousands Of Students To Admit Cheating In 2023 WASSCE

Some frustrated parents have accused the West Africa Examination Council (WAEC) of forcing thousands of students to admit cheating in the 2023 West Africa Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).

On Friday, March 1, 2024, a group of parents gathered at the premises of Otec FM in Kumasi to voice their concerns. They were troubled by the fact that minors were compelled to make statements without proper supervision. Despite their protests, the Ashanti Regional branch of WAEC remained unyielding, warning that refusal to comply could result in a lifetime ban from the examination board.

Moreover, the parents questioned the fairness of penalizing students who had passed their exams under the strict invigilation and supervision of WAEC. They argued that if any malpractices had occurred during the exams, it was the invigilators and supervisors who should be held accountable, not the innocent children.

More than 2,000 students, including those represented by the protesting parents, had their results withheld by WAEC for investigation due to suspected malpractices during the 2023 WASSCE. These students were summoned to WAEC offices to provide explanations regarding alleged irregularities detected during the examination. Depending on the outcome of the investigation, their results could either be canceled or released.

Angered and frustrated, the parents called upon the Education Minister, Honorable Osei Yaw Adutwum, to intervene and protect the future prospects of their children. They regarded the forced confessions of exam malpractices by their children as unjust and urged the authorities to hold accountable those responsible, such as invigilators and security officers.

Our children have been forced to admit engaging in examination malpractices during the 2023 BECE, a situation we deemed it illegal, considering their ages,” an angry parent told Otec News

There were invigilators and other security officers during the exams, if there had been any sort of malpractices, they should have been apprehended..the invigilators should be questioned not the innocent students, another parent said

Also, some  invigilators use their mobile phones to take snapshots of the question papers right after the examination commences and these are forwarded to the various social media channels. According to WAEC, it tracked some of these snapshots to their sources. About 7 SHS in Ghana risk the chance of having their entire results cancelled.
