To be a president one has to be bold and committed to achieve the stated objectives of campaign promises. To encapsulate the campaign promises of President Bola Ahmad Tinubu and watching the unfolding changes in Nigerian leadership system in less than thirty days in his office is commendable.
Like the saying of African adage; a good Friday manifests from Wednesday, for this, Nigerians should have no fear on the new government. We may hit stumble stones on the road but the future is brighter and welcoming. As a former governor that has done much in his state even without Federal Government allocation but survived and developed Lagos to the level of excellent, at now, his tactics as the President of Nigeria has not changed on the way he developed Lagos.
“Subsidy is gone” that was the first remark he bawled on the podium and that was not horrible because it was one of his campaign promises. That means he is a man of his words that stands on his promise, even though, the president should had provided measures to cushion the economic effects that may come from the subsidy removal.
But, let subsidy go forever, it is not important to us (but not to the people in the oil industry). Subsidy is a system of feeding the fat and enriching the rich. It kept swindling the country into economic crises that permeates in our underdevelopmental system. It only strangles the survival of Nigerian prosperity. Subsidy is a demon of development and our strongest and powerful President had fought it to death!
But, to the beneficiary of subsidy and the people that are not well acquainted with the subsidy policy will keep to curse and swear for its removal, but it is a demon in disguise. Why Nigeria in almost African countries? 68 million litters are consumed daily but the truth about the figure is less than the given figure was consumed in Nigeria because many tankers of fuel were whisked away to neighboring countries. This is why President Tinubu said Nigeria cannot continue to be the father Christmas of other countries.
True, the moment is hitting on Nigerians at this time that subsidy is gone but in later months things may stabilize and we will reap the dividends of our patience. In few days, after the subsidy removal the price of gas crashed, and more miracles are coming to happen (this saved food price not to hike). This is an indication of better days are ahead for Nigerian development.
Whether it is called subsidy removal or increase on the pump price, it is a good increase for the good of Nigerians. Nigeria can’t and will not continue to be the tapping cow-milk of other countries while Nigerians are suffering in abject poverty. Apart from fuel theft; crude oil smuggling is another area of concern for the President to tackle. It is revealed that Nigeria lost 619.7 million barrels of crude oil valued at N16.
25 trillion ($46.16 billion) to crude oil theft between 2009 and 2020. Another figure indicated that Nigeria
loses almost 400,000 barrels of crude to oil theft daily. Though, I read that the president met with security chiefs to thwart crude oil theft. The NNPCL also need structuring and I smelt something good will happen soonest.
In efforts to revamp the economy, President Tinubu’s agenda will rebuild the economy, develop skills to export more and import less; this means Nigerian companies will get life to work again. This will create wealth opportunities for Nigerians.
Education will evolve to achieve its desired goal in the country, teachers will get welfare packages and workers will not have reason to go on strike again. A new Nigeria will be rebirth for the youth, women, and Naira will be stabilized with stronger economy. From indications of the new Government, those promises made on the inauguration day are manifesting in Nigeria.
Starting with the arrest of the former Central Bank of Nigeria’s Governor, who is accused of bastardizing the economy is an indication that Tinubu’s government didn’t come to pamper anyone on the expense of Nigeria’s progress. And, I believe many people will be exposed and dig into for various offences. The case of Hadi Abubakar Sirika, Pauline Tallen, Bello Muhammad Mawalle of Zamfara and many others should not be ignored.
We need a leader with a voice of command, direction and focus not a leader that leaves the fate of his people to his servants to control without check and direction. Remember, President Tinubu said there is no excuse in his administration because he vied for the position and his wife, the first lady said they are wealthy that they don’t need Nigerians’ money. Tinubu only want to be Nigerians’ president to leave a legacy and good history.
To say the truth, I didn’t vote for Tinubu for president but in just few days of his stewardship he convinced me that he is the type of leader I have been beaming for, and I believe he is the type of leader I yearned for eight wasted years of corruption, insecurity, educational turmoil and economic crises peddled by inflation and Naira devaluation that crumbled businesses in the country with added poverty and suffering to peaceful Nigerians. And I believed, in little time, Nigerians will become the fans of President Bola Ahmad Tinubu, most especially if the President shun appointing some of the former governors and people that attacked his presidential ambition. Those kind of people will plot to damage his government.
As he promised to Nigerian Labor Congress, NLC and tasked the governors of the country; Minimum Wage will be reviewed, Nigerian refineries will get new lives, affordable condition of living will be provided, poverty will be squashed and fuel price will go down, electricity will be boosted with the open market system, employment opportunities will be increased, works embargo will go and new workers will fit in the empty spaces for efficient manpower. All could be achieved with our collective prayers, commendations, advices and most importantly blowing the whistle to beam those with skeletons in their cupboard. For me, I believe that Nigeria has gotten the right person to make everything works.
