256 teachers sue GES over promotional exams failure
About 256 teachers have filed a lawsuit against the Ghana Education Service (GES) and the Attorney General because they all failed the December 2021 promotion exams.
At the Ada Training College Centre, the teachers who are Assistant Directors Grade II took the test to move up to Assistant Directors Grade I.
Mr. James Enu, a lawyer for the teachers, told the Ghana News Agency that none of the 256 teachers who took the test at that center passed. He also said that it was strange that this happened.
Mr. Enu said that even though the applicants asked the GES to look into the problem, they were told that nothing strange was found in the events that led to their failure.
He said that the applicants thought that the GES did not look into the matter, so he wrote to the Service on behalf of his clients to ask for their test scripts and scores, but he did not get a response.
He also said that it was worrying that the candidates were not told the pass mark for the exams before they took them. Instead, they were told after the test that they had all failed the paper.
He said that because of these problems, the applicants sued the GES, asking the court to throw out the exam results and force the GES to give the applicants their exam scores and scripts. They also asked the court to stop the defendant from holding any more exams until the case is over.
Mr. Oheneba Akyea Mensah, who spoke on behalf of the teachers, said that the problem had hurt them mentally, emotionally, and physically, making it hard for them to do their jobs well.
Mr. Mensah said that some of the applicants didn’t have index numbers, so they were asked to use their staff numbers instead. He also said that one was absent and another was in an accident, but they were all told they had failed.
He said that they were trying to set a standard because this wasn’t the first time something like this had happened.
The application will be heard on December 12, 202256 teachers sue GES over promotional exams failure2, by the Tema High Court “B,” which is led by Justice Emmanuel Ankamah.
