Achimota School’ 97th Founders Day Celebration
On March 1, 2, and 3, 2024, Achimota School will celebrate its 97th Founders Day.
With the subject “Nurturing the Present, Restoring the Legacy,” this 97th Founders Day Celebration, will be celebrated by the week of March, The Founders day celebration takes place three years ahead of the Achimota School Centenary, upholds beloved customs while pushing Akoras and all Ghanaians to reconsider and debate the Achimota School’ vision.
“The Founders day Celebration promises to be one of the most exciting ever, enriched with new dimensions and activities,” a press statement dated February 21 stated.
To be more precise, the primary events and activities are for the 97th Founders Day Celebration:
- March 1st, Friday: The bonfire and torchlight procession starts at 6 p.m. from the Administration Block’s forecourt;
- March 2nd, Saturday: The Cadet Parade starts at 8.30 a.m.;
- March 2nd, Saturday: The Founder’s Day Grand Durbar starts at 2 p.m.;
- and on March 3rd, Sunday: The Aggrey Chapel hosts a Thanksgiving service at 9 a.m.
According to the press release, “This year’s Founders day Celebration other events include a press conference on the Achimota School Endowment Trust (ASET) Fund on Thursday, February 29 at 9 am, and the dedication of the renovated Assembly Hall. Once more, the Verbiage of an Art Exhibition, called AKORAart, will be held at BAN2 Gallery, Community 3, Tema, from 4 to 7 p.m. on the same day.
The artistic creations of Akoras will be on display for six days, with a special emphasis on the work of the Maestro, Amon Kotei, who created our country’s coat of arms.
The Grand Durbar, which takes place on Saturday afternoon, during the Celebration is the highlight of the 97th Founders Day Celebration, according to the organisers.

It beautifully showcases a variety of musical and dance styles from various ethnic backgrounds, echoing Achimota’s School desire for racial, religious, and cultural harmony making the Founders day Celebration—that “We May All Be One.”
Importantly, the Durbar feast is in line with Ghana legacy Month, which aims to highlight the nation’s rich material and cultural legacy.
Once more, the Achimota School’s physical construction is an outstanding example of a colonial-era building, making it one of Ghana’s most valuable material and cultural treasures.

In this regard, all well-wishers should contribute financially to the 1974 and 1984 Year Groups’ ongoing reconstruction and refurbishment of the majestic ancient Assembly Hall building, as the Achimota School is, by all accounts, a major national legacy.
A portion of the announcement stated, “In the meantime, the 1999-Year Group is promoting the ASET Fund and fund-raising to guarantee the seamless development and maintenance of this priceless and invaluable national heritage.”
