Exam Cheating: WAEC Must Not Fail the Country in 2023 BECE and WASSCE

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) is a non-profit organization that is responsible for administering the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) and the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) in Ghana. These exams are two of the most important exams in Ghana, and they play a significant role in determining the future prospects of Ghanaian students.
In recent years, WAEC has been plagued by a number of problems, including the leakage of examination papers. This has caused a great deal of public anger and distrust, and it has raised serious questions about the integrity of WAEC.
There are a number of reasons why WAEC has been unable to protect examination papers.
One reason is that WAEC is often understaffed in terms of staff with integrity and honesty to safeguard the sanctity of the examinations and is underfunded.
Let the truth be told, if a staff or an insider working in WAEC does not make the questions available to an outsider, there is no way the questions will leak. This makes it difficult for WAEC to properly monitor the security of examination papers.
Another reason is that WAEC staff have been accused of leaking examination papers for monetary gain which influences persons and syndicates to work with some staff members of WAEC. This has created a culture of corruption within WAEC, and it has made it difficult to ensure the integrity of the examinations.
The leakage of examination papers has had a number of negative consequences.
It has undermined the public’s trust in WAEC, and it has made it difficult for students to compete on a level playing field.
It has also led to a decline in the quality of education in Ghana.
In order to prevent the leakage of examination papers in 2023, WAEC must take a number of steps. First, WAEC must increase its staffing levels and provide its staff with adequate training. Second, WAEC must improve the security of its examination papers. Third, WAEC must crack down on corruption within its ranks.
If WAEC is unable to prevent the leakage of examination papers in 2023, it will fail the country.
The leakage of examination papers will undermine the integrity of the education system, and it will make it difficult for Ghanaian students to compete on a level playing field.
