Per the timelines of the Ministry of Education, Free SHS School Selection for 2022 BECE graduates starts across the nation and is expected to end on 18th November 2022. This means that parents with the help of school heads and teachers will need to identify grammar Schools, Technical Schools, And Vocational Schools they want their BECE candidates to be considered for during the school placement.
In all, over 500,000 candidates who sat for the 2022 Basic Education Certificate Examinations (BECE) which ended on 21st October 2022 will be choosing 6 schools each out of the available 911 public schools.
The Ghana Education News Team hopes parents will be extra careful not to be carried away by their tests and preference in selecting schools for their wards, instead they will be guided by the academic performance of their wards in making school choices.
Again, parents need to know that, it is not compulsory for them to make first choices from category A or B if the candidate does not make very good grades that can stand the competition in such schools.

All candidates will be required to choose a maximum of 6 six schools across Category A, B, C, and D. Per the guidelines for school selection, no candidate can select more than 1 school from category A which are the over-subscribed schools. Such schools have excellent facilities which make them very attractive during school selection, however, placement into these schools is also very competitive and often candidates who make it to such schools make between 05 and 09 ones at the BECE.

Furthermore, a maximum of two schools can be selected from category B which is also the next most competitive after Category B whiles candidates can choose up to five schools from category C and just a day school from Category D.
The Ministry of Education (MoE) has also introduced the cluster-based school selection option. Should a candidate opt for YES under this option, he or she will be considered for other schools within the cluster or category which he or she qualified for. What this implies is that, should in case a candidate is not placed in a particular school chosen, other schools within the category may be given to the candidate.
It is hoped that the Free SHS School Selection for 2022 BECE graduates will be done carefully by all decision-makers for and on behalf of candidates.
