GES gives deadline 2024 WASSCE for School results will be released
The Director-General of the Ghana Education Service (GES), Dr Eric Nkansah says the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) by the end of this year will release the provisional results of the 2024 WASSCE for School.
Speaking with JoyNews in an interview, the GES Director-General said that the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) had already been in contact with the Ministry of Education regarding the examination results.
“We are sure the 2024 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for School results will be released possibly before the year ends,” Dr Eric Nkansah told the Accra-based radio station.
He explained that while the management of the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) often sets targets for itself, unforeseen circumstances sometimes prevent them from meeting those deadlines.
The West African Examinations Council on August 5, 2024, commenced the administration of the 2024 edition of the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for School Candidates and ended it on Friday, September 20, 2024.
A total of 460,611 candidates made up of 212,954 boys and 247,657 girls, presented by 1,003 second-cycle schools participated in the West African Senior School Certificate Examination administrated at 1,000 centres across the country.
In a related development, the government has issued a GH¢25 million payment to the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) to settle some of the outstanding GH¢118 million debt owed to the non-profit making organization.
Confirming the payment of the amount to Citi FM in an interview, Dr. Clement Apaak, Deputy Ranking Member of Parliament’s Education Committee said the GH¢25 million payment is a step in the right direction.
“The government has issued a cheque for GH¢25 million, but the total debt is GH¢118 million. This amount is less than half of what is owed and will not fully address the problem,” Dr Apaak told the Accra-based radio station.
Reacting to the payment, the Head of Public Relations of WAEC, John Kapi stated that the money would be used to pay technicians to repair faulty scanners crucial for marking objective examination sheets of the 2024 WASSCE.
