Government has pumped GH¢16 billion into expanding, fixing roads – Ofori-Atta

In a groundbreaking announcement, Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta on roads fixing revealed that the Akufo-Addo government has dedicated GH¢16 billion to enhance and repair the country’s road infrastructure. Presenting the 2024 budget to parliament on November 15, 2023, Ofori-Atta highlighted that this substantial investment resulted in the completion of “the most kilometers of roads and interchanges ever accomplished in our history.”
The government’s commitment extended beyond roads, as resources were strategically allocated to expand the railway network. A notable initiative included connecting Tema to Mpakadan, fostering enhanced trade along the Eastern Corridor.
Furthermore, the administration directed GH¢19.5 million towards the construction of 12 fish landing sites and two fishing harbors. This targeted investment aimed to bolster the fishery-based livelihoods of coastal communities, demonstrating a multifaceted approach to economic development.

Noteworthy community-focused initiatives were also unveiled, with over GH¢2.2 billion invested in more than 2,000 projects under the Infrastructure for Poverty Eradication Programme (IPEP). Simultaneously, GH¢190.3 million was allocated through the Zongo Development Fund to advance inner-city development, showcasing the government’s commitment to holistic infrastructure enhancement.
