Ghana Education News has sighted what it terms a Powerful Open Letter From Hon. Sam George to US Ambassador Palmer on LGBTQI and Fears of US Investors
In the post which was posted by the MP on his Facebook page, he indicated that he was writing to express his concern about recent comments by US Ambassador Palmer at the US-Ghana Business Summit.
Hon. Sam George who is championing the anti-LGBTQ+ law in Ghana indicated that Ambassador Palmer expressed fears that investors from the United States would not find Ghana attractive if the country upholds its values and rejects LGBTQI.
The MP did not mince words as he indicated that he found this statement to be both surprising and disappointing.
He added that American investors are not looking to invest in countries that have no value and that he, the Minister, would argue that the basic test of a potential partner is integrity and values.
According to him, Ghana is a stable, viable democracy with a strong moral compass. We are intolerant of religious extremism, and we are committed to upholding the rule of law.
The Member of Parliament when on to say that he believes that the comments by the ambassador have been misinterpreted. Ghana is not intolerant of investors. We welcome investors who value the principles of integrity and respect the cultural values of their partners. We are confident that our intended legislation is not different from American laws in states like Florida and Kentucky. “I believe the US Supreme Court agrees largely with Ghana’s position.” Hon. Sam Ddzata Goerge added.
He further urged the ambassador to reconsider her statement and to reassure American investors that Ghana remains a welcoming and open destination for business. We are confident that a mutually beneficial business relationship between Ghana and the United States can be achieved.
