The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration has officially released a revised fee structure for passport applications in Ghana. In a significant move to make essential travel documents more accessible, the government has reduced standard application fees by 30%.

The new Passport Fees Released also aim at helping prevent extortion and middle men. The waiting period for receiving passports are registration has also reduced significantly. This means that Ghanaians can now expect their passports to be ready and delivered from 24 hours to about two weeks.

During a recent media briefing, the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, emphasized that these reforms aim to enhance efficiency while maintaining the high security standards of Ghana’s ICAO-compliant chip-embedded passports.

For those who want premium service, they can receive their Ghanaian passports within a day and at a fee of GHS2000.00.

All Ghanaians who need one passport or the other are to visit the passport application portal and do the registration themselves. This is an easy to do process from home and you do not need any middle man to apply for you. You can choose to receive your passport within 24 hours, 10 days or 15 days. You can also choose between 32 and 48 paged passports. What ever your choice, there is an official price to pay between GHS350 and GHS2000.00.

Key Application Guidelines

To ensure a smooth process and avoid falling victim to fraud, applicants are advised to follow the official Ministry protocols:

• Online Payments Only: All fees must be paid through the official Ghana Passport Online Portal. The Ministry does not authorize cash payments to individuals or “middlemen.”
• Combatting Corruption: The Ministry has reiterated a zero-tolerance policy toward “goro boys” (unauthorized intermediaries). Citizens are urged to complete their applications personally to maintain the integrity of the system.
• Doorstep Delivery: As part of the recent reforms, the Ministry has introduced nationwide delivery services to send completed passports directly to applicants’ homes.
• 24-Hour Premium Service: For the first time, a dedicated 24-hour service is available at the Premium Passport Application Centers (PACs) for those with emergency travel needs.
