WAEC sends SCAM ALERT notice to WASSCE & BECE Candidates and Parents

The West African Examination Council (WAEC) has alerted BECE candidates, parents, and the general public of an ongoing BECE SCAM Alert. In a blog post by WAEC signed by GhanaEdcuation, it said “The West African Examination Council wishes to alert members of the public about the activities of some persons who fraudulently make calls and send messages introducing themselves as staff of WAEC” and make claims that are false.
It is important to note that, there are groups on telegram that are charging candidates and parents who have lost their moral values GHS400.00 for the supply of supposed leaked papers for the upcoming BECE examination.

Some of the false claims made by these fraudulent persons include.
- The person being contacted have challenges with the registration they made for a particular WAEC examination.
- They, the callers, work in the WAEC Strong Room and can help upgrade results.
WAEC further disclosed that these unscrupulous persons request payments to be made to them via Mobile money to phone numbers they provide.
The Council has cautioned the public to disregard such phone calls because they are calls made by Scammers.

“WAEC wishes to assure members of the public that its database is secured and that any forgery of information or results can be detected by the confirmation or verification system.”
Institutions and organizations are advised to confirm or verify results presented to them directly from the council. You can also reach WAEC on 0540157979 to report fraudsters or reach out to the nearest police office.
In a related development, the 2022 BECE starts on Monday, 17th October across the country, and is expected to end on 21st October 2022 with the French Language Paper in the morning. WAEC has cautioned all candidates to obey the rules of the examination. It further stressed the attempt by candidates to sneak mobile phones and other foreign materials into the examination hall. The Ministry of Education has also asked officers of WAEC and the security officers deployed to monitor the examination to deal with anyone who attempts to compromise the credibility of the examination.
